LCC Summer Theater {FREE EVENT}

Lansing Community College takes its performing arts outdoors every summer for a festival of music, theater and dance that lasts from June through late July. All shows are free and all shows begin at 7 p.m.

Shows take place at the LCC Outdoor stage in the central downtown campus. There are concessions nearby and patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

And if the weather gets bad? Either too hot or rainy? Then the shows retreat to the nearby Dart Auditorium which is air conditioned and dry.

“Treasure Island” Adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel, L. Don Swartz’ adaptation sticks to the heart of the novel, capturing on stage all the drama and excitement of this beloved classic. Directed by John Lennox, it tells the story of Jim Hawkins, an innkeeper’s young son who comes into possession of a key to a chest that holds the map to a buried treasure. They chase after the treasure while a band of pirates led by Long John Silver are in hot pursuit. Shows are June 20-24 at the LCC Outdoor Amphitheatre.

“Victoria Martin: Math Team Queen” Head back to high school in this comedy by Kathryn Walat that is directed by Paige Tufford. In it, you’ll see the nerds and the popular kids team up in an unlikely way—the super popular Vickie Martin joins the all-male math team at Longwood High School and they set out to achieve victory for these mathletes. Shows are July 18-22 at the LCC Outdoor Amphitheatre.

DANCE Lansing Summer Festival It’s back for another round—the annual dance festival that features four nights of new choreography by a diverse collection of area choreographers and dancers. The shows present the latest in contemporary dance while enriching performance and development opportunities for local choreographers and dancers. Each night is different with different dancers and is part of a collaboration that includes Happendance, LCC Performing Arts, Everett High School Dance Program, Greater Lansing Academy of Dance, Greater Lansing Ballet Company, Keys to Creativity, Lansing Mall, Lansing Lugnuts, MSU Department of Theatre and MSU Orchesis. These shows all take place at Dart Auditorium.
