(this was how we were told back in March, just a sign in the stores, nothing official at first)

Meijer Stops Doubling All Coupons At All Stores

You may have heard the latest Meijer buzz-  they announced they will no longer double coupons for all areas. While here in the Lansing/Jackson area we have been used to this since the end of March when our no doubling went into effective, it doesn’t come as a surprise.

Here’s what they had to save on their Facebook page

So far this has been the only official news about Meijer stopping their doubling policy at all their stores.

Back when our stores stopped doubling, I listed these tips to help you continue to save:

However… we will still find ways to save.

  • Meal Planning is going to become even MORE important if you don’t do it. I haven’t really shared mines in the past, but I will start now especially with these changes.
  • You will still be able to double at stores like Kroger.
  • Target will still have their coupon policy where you can stack Target coupons with mf coupons.
  • Using the drugstores like CVS and Walgreens that offer loyalty programs and allow you to stack coupons as well.
  • If you have a Kmart near you, they double up to .99 cents every day of the week. (However you have to spend at least $25)
  • If you have a Polly’s near you, they double the first coupon
  • ALSO if Meijer keeps their policy where you are allowed to use other store coupons (like Target, Walgreens) then you will be able to stack that with mf coupons and STILL save!
  • It will also be really important to start looking for those HIGHER value coupons.  If you live in an area that does not get the higher value coupons, consider ordering them through Wiz Clipz( these come already cut) or the full inserts from Insert Insanity

So if you had a store that doubled in your area? What’s your plan of attack?

Here’s what I did when Meijer stopped doubling in the Lansing/Jackson area:

  • I shopped more at Kroger
  • I actually started using a Menu planner to help plan my meals
  • I started grabbing more local, fresh deals from Horrocks
  • I have a garden as well
  • I incorporate trips to Sam’s Club for deals on Meat
  • I started grabbing more toiletry type deals on Amazon
  • I focus on doing a big shopping trip when Kroger has their MEGA sale promotions
  • Continued to stack coupons at Target

I still shop at Meijer, but I have definitely scaled back since they have stopped doubling coupons and their Meijer Math does not always equal lower prices. I think you can still have decent deals on a good sale week! Like this week they have the Meijer Kraft promotion going on. There are a few great deals to grab. They have started following Kroger’s Friday Freebie and they gave out a digital coupon to get free Jif Peanut Butter!

I think it also is going to depend on what stores you have in your area. For example, I live in an area where all the stores are within 5 minutes from me (except Walmart, about 15 minutes), so I can easily pick where to shop. And even shop at multiple stores. I know for some of you that don’t have that option will not be able to do that, so you will have to decide what works best for you and your budget.

We cover all the major stores here on our blog so we will continue to work hard to bring you the best grocery deals each week!
